USA: Glarus Brewing Co breaks ground on a new plant
New Glarus Brewing Co. breaks ground May 18 on a new production plant that will produce more than double its capacity, Wisconsin State Journal posted May 18.
The new $16 million, 75,000-square- foot facility will be able to produce 100,000 barrels per year, said brewery owner Deb Carey. The brewery strained to produce 40,000 barrels last year.
"We're having a hard time keeping up with the demand for the beer, so we need some increased production," Carey said.
Despite the cost of the project ballooning from its original price tag of about $10 million, Carey said the expansion is expected to be completed in the summer of 2007. But even with the added production at the new plant, which will be about a mile south of the existing plant on Highway 69, the brewing company will continue to operate at both locations. Carey expects to add about 30 jobs to the brewery's staff of 32 over the next three years.
